K.J. Wright will play for a familiar face in 2021 — just not in Seattle. Nearly six months after hitting the open market, the longtime Seahawks linebacker signed a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders, as ESPN and NFL Network reported Thursday. The move gives Vegas some much-needed insurance in the wake of several injuries at linebacker and reunites Wright with former Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who’s now running the Raiders’ defense.

Wright, who spent the first 10 seasons of his career with the Seahawks, said in late July that he wasn’t “closing the door” on going back, adding that he thought his return to the team would be a “no-brainer” upon entering free agency. But The Athletic recently reported that the Seahawks have been content turning over the full-time starting duties to 2020 first-round pick Jordyn Brooks and fellow second-year man Darrell Taylor. Seattle also still employs seven-time Pro Bowler Bobby Wagner, who is expected back for Week 1 after a knee operation.

The Raiders, meanwhile, have been overt in their efforts to beef up a thinning linebacker group, with Nick Kwiatkoski, Nicholas Morrow and Javin White all battling injuries. Just this week, Vegas swapped 2022 draft picks to acquire former Chargers starter Denzel Perryman from the Panthers, and he, too, could see starting reps early this season.

Like Perryman, Wright has a history with Bradley, for whom he played for in Seattle from 2011-2012. The 32-year-old veteran, a one-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion, has been mostly durable over his 10-year career, starting all 16 games six times. Knee surgery wiped out all but five contests in 2018, but since then, Wright has posted numbers consistent with his career production, logging a personal-best 132 tackles and three interceptions in 2019, followed by 86 tackles and two sacks in 2020.
