Just two games in the Week 1 NFL schedule are divisional matchups, one of which is the Texans vs. Jaguars. Houston has dominated the recent and all-time series with six straight wins entering Sunday and a 25-13 all-time record. But it’s a new era for the Jags with No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence under center and Urban Meyer patrolling the sideline. Houston (4-12) and Jacksonville (1-15) finished third and fourth in the AFC South last year and the teams will meet again in Week 15.
Jaguars vs. Texans will kick off at 1 p.m. ET from NRG Stadium in Houston. The Jags are listed as three-point favorites in the latest Texans vs. Jaguars odds, courtesy of Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under is set at 45.5. In select markets, Sunday’s matchup can be seen live on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+ with their must-have Premium plan.

Week 1 NFL picks for Jaguars vs. Texans
Before you tune in to Sunday’s Texans vs. Jaguars game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up almost $7,900 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception six years ago. It went a sizzling 24-14 on top-rated NFL picks last season, returning more than $800. The model also enters the 2021 season on an incredible 120-78 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season.
The model ranked in the Top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past five years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94 percent of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.
For Jaguars vs. Texans, the model says the value is on over 45.5 points being scored. The model is predicting both teams to combine for 50 total points, resulting in the over hitting in well over 50 percent of simulations.
Lawrence became more comfortable as the preseason progressed and he’ll be fortunate to face a Houston defense that looks much different from what fans are accustomed to seeing. Gone is J.J. Watt as the three-time Defensive Player of the Year joined Arizona, while Houston also lost LB Bernardrick McKinney, who was a Pro Bowler in 2018. Jacksonville should have little trouble with its contributions to the point total against a Houston team in rebuild mode.
While Houston won’t have Deshaun Watson’s services, it will bring a deep stable of running backs against one of the league’s worst run defenses. The Jags ranked 30th in stopping the run last year, which contributed to the team allowing the second-most points in the league. Two weak defenses will mitigate what could be two conservative offenses which is why the model is backing the over.
